2010 Image   The Italian Espresso Experience – Lavazza Calendar 2010
Media Release - November 2009

For the first time in the 18 year history of the exclusive Lavazza Calendar, the visual and musical arts intertwine to celebrate Italy’s exuberant and uplifting history and culture. One of Italy’s most famous and emotional pieces of music, Nessun Dorma, is the original inspiration behind the 2010 Lavazza Calendar shot by British fashion photographer Miles Aldridge.

Like Vogue, Pirelli and Campari, Lavazza is one of a handful of leading European brands celebrating photography, art and fashion with the production of a limited edition calendar, copies of which are shared with an exclusive audience. For art and photography enthusiasts throughout the world, the annual presentation of a new Lavazza Calendar has become a highly anticipated event with past photographers including Helmut Newton, David LaChapelle and Annie Leibovitz.

The 2010 Lavazza Calendar is no exception; Aldridge conducted an ensemble of six supermodels to orchestrate a set of seven bright, colourful and provocative images which use as a central theme classic Italian songs such as ‘O Sole Mio and Nessun Dorma.

In total six Italian songs inspired the images for the 2010 Lavazza Calendar – musical classics Nessun Dorma, ‘O Sole Mio, Giuseppe Verdi’s Va’ Pensiero, Fred Buscaglione’s Guarda che Luna, Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli’s international hit, Time to Say Goodby (Con Te Partirò in Italian), and Baciami Piccina.

To shoot the calendar, Aldridge transformed Italy’s Cinecittà film studios in Rome into a fantasy wonderland to provide the requisite setting for his noted ‘Futuretrò’ look, which draws inspiration from cult Italian films such as La Dolce Vita and La Strada.

The faces of supermodels Bianca Balti, Lydia Hearst, Georgia Frost, Daisy Lowe, Alexandra Tomlinson and Alek Alexeyeva were incorporated into the calendar’s images and each subject tells the story of the song at its heart.

Lavazza continues its support of fashion and the arts in Australia through sponsorship of leading events and organisations such as the National Gallery of Victoria, Sydney Opera House and the Lavazza Italian Film Festival. The New Year marks an exciting new calendar of arts and fashion events for Lavazza beginning with the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2010 (March 14 – 21).

Lavazza is the official coffee partner of L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2010.
